Brian Vrablick is responsible for Northwest Management, Inc.’s Deer Park office. Projects he is overseeing include private forest landowner management planning, timber harvest layout and administration, prescribed burning, and log marketing. Many of Brian’s clients are striving to reach a balance between a vigorous, healthy forest and a productive wildlife habitat.

Brian graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Management. As part of his continuing education, he graduated with Class 19 of the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program.

Brian is currently a Certified Forester with the Society of American Foresters and a candidate member in the Association of Consulting Foresters.

Brian’s previous experience was with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. He held several positions with the agency, including: Forest Stewardship Program Coordinator in northeast Washington in which he was responsible for technical and educational information dissemination to private landowners in northeast Washington; Unit Forester responsible for all activities on 30,000 acres of state owned land, including timber harvest layout and administration, fire control, reforestation, recreation, and public-use.

Professional Experience:

Mr. Vrablick is the area forester for Northwest Management, Inc.’s Deer Park office.  He has experience in the field of natural resources since 1991.  His responsibilities include all areas of forest management working with private non-industrial landowners as well as industrial, state and federal agencies.  His primary responsibilities include writing Forest Management Plans and Forest Stewardship Plans, timber sale preparation and administration, hazard management, log marketing and timber inventory and evaluation.

Mr. Vrablick is also responsible for preparing the bid prospectus for all the private timber sales in the area. Included in this package is a description of the silvicultural treatment, the species harvested by volume and diameter and location of the sale unit.  The package includes a series of maps to assist log buyers with locating the sale area. He closes the sale packages and evaluates the bids to determine the best net return for the landowners.

Mr. Vrablick is involved in the Fire Safe Spokane/FireWise program in northeast Washington.  He meets with landowners in the urban interface to develop Defensible Space Plans and educate landowners concerning wildfire and a fire safe environment.


1997 – 2000; Forest Stewardship Program Coordinator, WA Dept. Natural Resources, Colville, WA

Responsibilities: Served as the designated expert responsible for coordinating and managing the Forest Stewardship Program activities for NE Region.  Educated Non-Industrial Private Forest (NIPF) landowners about forest health issues as well as resource management constraints, timber harvest alternatives, fire protection issues and wildlife habitat conditions and opportunities.  Helped landowners determine goals and objectives for their property.  Informed landowners of specific tasks to complete in order to meet their goals and objectives.  Responsible for cost share program budget and implementation; Stewardship Incentive Program and Forestry Incentive Program.  Coordinated stewardship activities with other agencies; Conservation Districts, NIPF landowners and natural resource professionals.  Proactively promoted the Forest Stewardship Program to previously unreached NIPF landowners and kept current with new developments and research on forest health and forest management.  Coordinated 1999 Forest Owners’ Field Day for over 300 NIPF landowners.
1994 – 1997; Unit Forester, WA Dept. Natural Resources, North Bend, WA
Responsibilities: Supervised employees assigned to the unit; ensured they have the equipment, training and safe working environment necessary to meet the unit’s goals and provide for their own development.  Developed plans for unit activities: timber sales, reforestation, intensive stand management, Biosolids application, fire prevention and road maintenance.  Ensured that timber sale objectives, both financial and environmental, were met on all sales.  Administered the most sensitive timber sale contracts by working with the operator and purchaser to meet the requirements of the contract.  Served as DNR public relations contact in the unit.  Met with representatives of special interest groups, industry, agencies, media and public to provide and gather information related to DNR programs and activities.  Assisted and coordinated with Natural Area Manager to implement and monitor Natural Area Plans and activities.  Responsible for operational components of multi-agency Biosolids Forestry Program.
1992 – 1994; Forester, WA Dept. Natural Resources, Loomis, WA
Responsibilities: Prepared region, board and specialty product sales.  Reconnaissance potential sale areas.  Identified sale area boundaries and road locations with special consideration give to riparian area and wetland protection, priority species habitat, green tree and snag retention and other environmental concerns.  Drafted logging plans and developed silvicultural prescription for each sale unit, including a regeneration plan.  Marked timber to attain silvicultural, financial, and environmental objectives.  Prepared sale jackets, which include a management plan, a SEPA document, Forest Practice Applications, a sale area map, and a road plan.  Responded to questions from environmental groups, purchasers, and other interested parties concerning specific timber sales.  Administered timber sale contracts and worked with contractors to achieve desired results and ensured timber sale accounts did not fall into arrears.  Administered permit range assignments and facilitated meetings to initiate Coordinated Range Management Planning.
